Smerdox is a italo-kazakhi experimental noise band that started in the year 1997 by brothers John Giuseppe "Peppe" Smerdox
and Bilo Smerdox, later revived by John Giuseppe "Peppe" Smerdox and his son in 2024.
Every song is mainly composed of abstract noises, usually static or sines at high frequencies.
Smerdox defies what is commonly defined as "music" to create beautiful esoteric auditory experiences.
leading to what is commonly defined by Smerdox fans as "Smerdocore"
Smerdox's first album, "менің BILO ағамның шуылдауы бар ;3" released in 1996 in Kazakhstan, Shungay as cassettes,
but was later released worldwide in 1997.
Their second album "Smerdo Days" was made after John Giuseppe "Peppe" Smerdox moved to Germany,
and recieved news of Bilo Smerdox's death. It released in 1998.
Between 1998 and 2000, Smerdox went through a hiatus to cope with Bilo Smerdox's sudden death.
Many fans were left wondering what John Giuseppe "Peppe" Smerdox was doing at the time.
Many fans speculate John Giuseppe "Peppe" Smerdox was behing the
1999 Russian apartment bombings, this is
very likely as he apparently lived in Russia for a few months, including September (when the bombings happened)
he moved shortly after, on the 22nd of October 1999.
He also seemed to have several issues with local law enforcement and was seen near the crime scenes several times.
He was however never convicted, nor accused of committing said crimes.
Smerdox's third album was released in 2000 as "Smerdo Note" in Kasel, Germany as cassettes.
It later released in the same year worldwide as "Brown Note", likely to localise it and make the album more accessible.
It was rumored that John Giuseppe "Peppe" Smerdox sadly lost his life in the
September 11 attacks on the twin towers,
The fact that Smerdox had stopped publishing music along the same time these rumors had started going
around helped spread the news of the last band member’s alleged death, even though unverified.
In 2024, due to the collaboration between John's son and the whsprNet! collective, several of Smerdox's works have
been reuploaded to major streaming platforms. These re-uploads lead to JGPS Jr.'s "Smerdox Vive" EP:
Convincing his father to make another album under a new lineup called "Smerdo World Order", somewhat dropping
the concept of "Smerdocore" whilst still preserving the avant-garde feel.
However, as of the release of "Smerdox Must Die" (Stylised as S.M.D), it has been confirmed, both on the band's
Instagram page and on the last track of the album, that John Giuseppe "Peppe" Smerdox Sr. has died of an aneurysm.
This marked the beginning of the third Smerdox hiatus.
As of now, there's no telling if Smerdox will return.
